Celery & Mixed Berry Smoothie

You know what? Tomorrow morning is the last morning before the weekend. And today it’s time to learn the recipe for the final celery smoothie. Maybe it will be the one to help you tackle the last obstacle on the way to all the Friday fun!

For me, at least, this smoothie is perfect for mornings when I have to leave the house early and don’t have that much time to gather up all the ingredients, peel fruit, grate lemons and limes, and so forth. Just four ingredients, some of which you can just pour in, and blend!

Mixed Berry Smoothie

Also, if you’ve forgotten to put your bananas in the freezer the night before, no worries! There’s no need to dilute this smoothie with ice if you’re using frozen berries. I would actually recommend using fresh banana here; otherwise you’ll end up with a smoothie bowl. Not saying that is a bad thing – especially if it’s a warm, sunny morning that might be exactly what you need!

My previous instructions for the perfect celery smoothie included citrus fruit, such as lime or lemon. Here, though, frozen berries bring in all the required acidity, so you won’t be wasting your precious time cutting and squeezing lemons to achieve the complete flavor. My go-to combination here is blackcurrants and strawberries – the perfect balance between sour and sweet.

The reason I saved this smoothie for the last is that I consider this to be something for seasoned smoothie consumers. While there’s enough banana and berries to make it all sweet and nice, I won’t lie to you, you’ll taste the parsley and the celery. However, they make up such a perfect, refreshing combination, that although it might sound way too salad-y for your taste, don’t knock it til you’ve tried it! You will know you’re drinking all sorts of green stuff, but I bet my bottom dollar you will love it.

The Base
  • 3 celery stalks
  • 1 banana
The Flavor
  • cup frozen berries*
  • ½ bunch parsley
  • 1 cup water

*Any berries will do, but I prefer using blackcurrants mixed with some sweeter berries, such as strawberries or raspberries. That way you'll get a little bit both sour and sweet, which works perfectly for smoothies!
