Celery & Power Greens Smoothie

Good morning, sunshine! At last it’s actually sunny up here, but if that’s not the case where you reside, let this smoothie bring some sunshine into your heart. It’s our first foolproof celery smoothie, and you know what? It’s also my first ever green smoothie! I used to make this years and years back, when the smoothie craze had barely caught on. I didn’t even have a blender yet, only a sorry excuse for a handheld blender that had cost me 12 euros or so… You can imagine the result was far from smooth!

Green Power Smoothie

This continues to be one of my favorite smoothies, for several reasons. The first and most important thing is the taste. Duh. It’s so sweet and delicious that if it wasn’t green you wouldn’t know you’re basically drinking a salad. This is the smoothie that I always use as an introductory green smoothie if I’m making smoothies for somebody else. It’s also the first green smoothie my mom and dad ever tasted, and Mom’s absolute favorite. And I can safely say that it’s also very stomach-friendly; if my FODMAP-sensitive, acid reflux sufferer, possibly Celiac mom can have this for breakfast every now and then, anybody can. Unless you’re allergic to one or several of the ingredients listed below, in which case – I shouldn’t need to say this, right? – avoid consumption.

The second reason for my undying love for this smoothie is the fact that, despite the sweetness, it’s filled with vegetables! Most of the green smoothie recipes you come across online are fruit smoothies dyed green with a few spinach leaves. When I make a green smoothie, it needs to have actual veggies in it. So don’t skimp on the celery, bell pepper, ginger, herbs, and leafy greens! As unbelievable as it sounds, if you follow the recipe, the result will be sweet.

The third reason is… Well, I don’t have a third reason, and don’t really need one. Try it for yourself, and tell me what you think! In this recipe, there are no optional add-ins – it’s all compulsory! Again, obviously, if you’re allergic to something, leave it out. I’m trying to make you feel better, not to kill yourself with food.

Celery & Power Greens Smoothie

Green but sweet, this is the perfect green smoothie to start with if you have managed to live your life without so much as a sip so far!

Servings: 2
The Base
  • 3 celery stalks
  • 1 banana, frozen
  • 1 orange
The Flavor
  • 1 kiwi, peeled
  • ½ bell pepper (green or yellow)
  • 1 inch fresh ginger
  • 1 cup spinach, kale, or arugula
  • a few leaves basil
  • ½ cup water
  1. Blend everything together and enjoy!
